I'm here at my annual trek to CES in Las Vegas, Nevada to find all things NEW in the tech world. I posted some pictures of my arrival and first day on the showroom floor. This is the biggest CES in their history. They're taking up all of the Las Vegas Convention Center, the former Hilton Convention facility, the Sands Convention Center, the Venetian facilities AND the Aria. There's no way i can get through the whole tihng in 4 days of walking.
Anyway I found a couple of interesting things on my first day. Within 10 minutes of arrival, I found what might be the most important "find" for this trip. One thing I'm seeking is a better method of transferring money worldwide for the purpose of paying Associates and software engineers who work with us around the globe. I don't know yet whether this is viable, but I did find a LOT available here regarding Bitcoin. One of the Bitcoin vendors has successfully created a system that integrates with Visa/Mastercard and claims that, for only 4 cents per transaction, we can transfer funds to anyone with a Visa/Mastercard debit or credit cards worldwide through the Bitcoin system. The recipient must have a Bitcoin acccount. Upon instant receipt of Bitcoin, they can transfer the funds to their Mastercard/Visa debit card or credit card. If this is true, it'll revolutionize the way we deliver commissions and payments to other professionals around the world. I'll study it more and give you a report after I know more.
Another quirky thing I found that I just . . ."like". . . is another of the many Drones. This is a TINY 4-propeller drone billed as "Taking Selfies To New Heights." I just had to laugh... but it turns out this is a highly sophisticated little thing packed with technology. Looks like a toy but it's far from being a recreational tool. It's almost undetectable in flight ... like a large bug ... but flies independently and snaps photos or takes HD video of whatever, wherever, whoever - including yourself . . .hahaha. I snapped a shot of it. they've got them hovering over the crowd, taking video of us attendees. REALLY cool stuff since it's hard to tell where they come from. it seems in the Drone world, SMALL is BIG this year.
And finally, on my INTERESTING list is the Beam company which I started following here about 3 years ago. They're the best - and by far most expensive - of the many robotic companies that provide a "presence" for those with a need to keep tabs on remote locations. it's a little device with wheels and what looks like a tablet or iPad on stilts with wheels. The tablet on top shows the face or "whatever" of the person controlling it. This little thing - the Beam - beams "you" to whereve you put this device, and allows you to travel around the environment autonomously. so it's like a little robot of YOU, running around the remote office, peering over the shoulder of your workers, lecturing them, giving presentaions, participating in meetings, etc. Those in the remote location talk to you and interact with you as if you're THERE. What's next? ARMS and HANDS ???? it can go anywhere except up and down stairs . . . i'm sure SOMEBODY is already working on that problem ;-)
So, i'm preparing to head out for day #2 now. I'll drop another report here when the day is over. Check out the photos . . . see you tomorrow!
